BIOCOMM 2021, Where Imaging Specialists Meet
Plan now for BIOCOMM 2021 in sunny Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The BioCommunications Association will be holding its 90th annual meeting BIOCOMM in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the historic Drury hotel from May 18-22, 2021.
Following the huge success of BICOMM 2024, we have listened to feedback from meeting participants so BIOCOMM 2021 will have more workshops providing a greater opportunity to learn new techniques and improve your photographic skill set.
Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote
Will Wilson, Diné photographer
Will Wilson is a photographic artist and an educator and is Program Head of Photography, Santa Fe Community College. His art projects center around the continuation and transformation of customary indigenous cultural practice. With his lens based artistry Wilson challenges the traditional portrayal of the indigenous North American image and reclaims it for modern generations.
Wilson studied photography, sculpture, and art history at the University of New Mexico (MFA, Photography, 2002) and Oberlin College (BA, Studio Art and Art History, 1993).
Will Wilson will give the Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote Address at BIOCOMM 2021.
Anne Shiras Pioneer Lecture
Associate Professor Gale Spring, FBPA
Gale Spring was Director of Photographic Services in the Pathology Department at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas, Texas for 11 years, working between pathology services and the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science.
In 1988, Gale made a giant leap moving from Dallas, Texas to Melbourne, Australia to take a position as Senior Lecturer and Program Leader of the program in Scientific Photography at the RMIT University. Gale retired as Deputy Dean in the School of Applied Science in 2013 but remains an Adjunct Professor in the School of Science. He continues teaching, conducting workshops and consulting on forensic imaging cases.
Gale will give the Anne Shiras Pioneer Members Lecture at BIOCOMM 2021.

The BioCommunications Association is pleased to announce the BioImages 2024 Salon! The Salon entries are now posted in the BioImages Gallery. Many thanks to the Judges for their hard work and expertise selecting this year's Salon and Award winners.
The Best of Show, Category Awards and Special Merit Awards will be announced on Tuesday, May 19, 2024 at 5:00 PM EDT, via a live Zoom presentation. Connection information will be sent via e-mail. Tune in to see which visuals in the Salon showcase have also won Awards!
Danielle Edwards – 2024 Louis Schmidt Laureate
The Louis Schmidt Committee is pleased to announce that Danielle Edwards, BA, BAppSc (Hons), FBCA, RBI, FAIMBI, FIPT has been selected as the 2024 Louis Schmidt Laureate. This award, the highest honour in the BCA, will be presented at BIOCOMM 2021.

90 years of the BioCommunication Association
Thirty-eight photographers who recognized the need to exchange technical information and to recognize professional excellence founded the BioCommunications Association, in 1931 at Yale University.
Over the decades the association has grown, images by members have appeared in major scientific journals and textbooks, in presentations at international conferences and educational institutions, in magazines and on social media.
We will be celebrating 90 years of the association at BIOCOMM 2021 in Santa Fe New Mexico May 18-22, 2021. Please join us as we look forward through the work of BCA members who help write the history of medical and scientific discovery.
